Lake Winnebago in east central Wisconsin.
The City of Appleton is the largest of 17
cities that make up a large and fast growing urban area. In the 1800s giant
paper mills were established in the Fox Cities area, and the quality of life in
the area continued to attract residents, entrepreneurs, and a diverse
industrial base.
In addition to Appleton's ideal seasonal
climate, the business climate recently attracted national attention when a
nationwide study for three consecutive years ranked the area as one of the best

Highways 10, 41, and 45, make commuting fast and efficient-the average commute

miles west of Appleton and it provides passenger, freight, charter
services. Local and inter-regional bus service is available in the Fox Cities
area.
Education in the Fox Cities area sets
consistently high standards that result in students test scores exceeding
state and national averages. The Appleton School District has received top
academic ranking and earned several educational excellence awards. Eighteen
colleges and universities are located in close proximity to the Fox Cities
area.
The Fox Cities area offers a variety of
cultural events that appeal to different tastes, including amateur and
professional music, dance and theatre productions. Lawrence University and the
University of Wisconsin Fox Valley Center both offer quality entertainment. The
Fox Valley Symphony offers an annual concert series.
